You can try using System Restore to see if that helps or not and since you can always undo that action... Hi, sorry to bump an old thread but I have this error and don't have AVG on this machine - and never have had that I can remember. The root of this nasty problem was the earlier build of Kaspersky Internet security 2010. I monitor Event Viewer daily and it seems right after an update (not all mind you) I get the Event ID 7006. Some noticed virus program became problematic and had to take further steps to resolve that issue. I never had these issues until I did this OS install. It doesn't just let you uninstall an app it wants to run the whole show.

NOTE: Recent updates to some versions of Windows won't allow this util to backup the registry so ignore any errors you may get and perform the registry backup manually if needed.
