My wireless interface was switched off (hardware switch) at the time, I was using wired ethernet. This seems to have cured the problem. The X-ORG is fine, the 'restart to finish updates' message is gone and the 'Waiting for network configuration' is gone as well. upon restart and the kernel appears to be 11.10 but the graphic sticks on "Waiting for network configuration" , "Waiting up to 60 seconds more for network", as in #858122. http://technologyprometheus.com/to-connect/centos-failed-to-connect-to-socket-var-run-dbus-system-bus-socket-no-such-file-or-directory.html

Can you confirm that the problems is only with the customized the image and not present in the regular K/X/L/Ubuntu release? Moving the files and creating the symlinks in recovery fixed it as pacrock suggested. in the casper dump, it shows that dbus is failing to connect: - - dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.FileNotFound: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory + + dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.FileNotFound: Failed To Connect To System Bus No Such File Or Directory After reboot the same issue is present. :-( This is a really huge bug.
